long weekend

Last long weekend was fairly action packed. On Saturday, 5th Element and girlfriends went to the Justice for Jeffrey Peace walk at Nathan Phillips square.

We walked with signs and everything. There was no headcount, but it seemed like at least 100 people.

They told us to obey traffic, but we diagonally crossed yonge and college anyway. We had police escorts.

It was a peaceful walk. It wasn't just filipinos, but people of all races and ages.

We also got to see Carla with her kid, Kaya, and the other one on deck.

After, we went to the King of the Ring B-boy battle. This was a crazy event because the battle took place in an actual boxing ring. Geoff's cousin, Joe Palma aka Silence, entered so we came to support. 32 people entered, but only one would leave with $1500 and an actual title belt. The draw was bad because all of the good people were on one side of the bracket. Joe's first round matchup was the infamous Dizzy, one of the top dudes in Toronto. It had the hype of the finals, but it was only the first round. Dizzy seemed to hold back a bit and Joe wasn't happy about it. It was a close battle, but Joe ended up upsetting Dizzy. Dizzy ran out of the building pissed off. There were arguments outside with the judges and I think I heard one of the judges say, "Dizzy's a bitch", but everything was all good after. Joe made it to the final four before he got tired. Two dudes from Montreal went to the finals, but the final battle was wack. I guess you can't blame them after 12 sets in 4 rounds.

Sunday was rehearsal for Spotlight followed by a promo performance at Lucid nightclub. What was funny about the performance was they introduced us as 5th Element b-boys featuring Flex from Bag of Trix. What about VYBE and spotlight? The stage was not really a stage and the lighting wasn't so good, but whatever. The jam was packed and hopefully we sold a few tickets from that promo.

Lucid is a nice looking club.

For all you Geoff fans, here's a GQ pic.
